NordVPN 8.12.0.0 for Windows is the desktop app of the virtual private network provider NordVPN, and you can download it from the official nordvpn.com website. The current app supports Windows 10 64-bit (version 1607 and later) and Windows 11.
NordVPN has operated since 2012 and belongs to Groupe Nord. Its Windows app is designed for people who want a VPN to work without much thought. Travellers use it on hotel and airport Wi-Fi, where they cannot be sure who else is watching the network. Remote workers route their traffic through an encrypted tunnel when they work from cafés. People who care about privacy prefer that their internet provider does not see every site they visit. Some users simply want to appear to be in another country, for example to check how a website looks to visitors there. The app suits all of them because it reduces the job to choosing a server and clicking Connect. If you only need a VPN occasionally and do not want a subscription, a service with a free plan may fit better.
NordVPN's operating system support page lists Windows 10 64-bit (version 1607 and later) and Windows 11 for the current app. Windows 7, 8.1 and 32-bit Windows 10 can only use older app versions, up to 6.45; those are deprecated. Apps also exist for macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, ChromeOS and Android TV.

Only install the app from nordvpn.com. Cracked VPN clients and shared accounts sold cheaply online defeat the purpose of a VPN: whoever modified the software can see your traffic. A VPN also does not replace antivirus software or common sense with links and downloads.
Let the app start with Windows if you want protection from the moment you connect to a network. When a website behaves oddly, try another server in the same country before disconnecting. And if a service at home refuses to work, turning the VPN off briefly for that task is simpler than hunting for settings.
The app is free to download, but using the service requires a paid NordVPN subscription; a trial period is available.
